The ice-age, Within the ice age , cold periods were alternated by warmer periods (interglacials). This climat can be compared with northern Siberia nowadays. In summertimes around 18 to 20 degrees Celsius and in winter minus 25-30 degrees. In these colder periods vegetations was low. Several grasses small low bushes, small willows, birch, etc and several type of moss. In this biotope t used to live several kinds of coldloving mammals, birds, fishes and insects. Of all mammals the most appealing and wellknown is the mammoth. Than followed up by the woolly rhinoceros, bison , aurochs, horse, hyena, wolf, reindeer, cavebear and brown bear, cave lion, tiger as well as smaller animals like polar fox, snow hare, beaver, glutton, ermine, mink, lemming and others. In summertime these animals also lived in what`s now called the Netherlands. In wintertime they lived in less extreme areas like the south of what now is the Northsea. The Northsea was a tundra and in it t w two big lakes. One was filled by the Thames in the west and the other in the east by the Maas and Rhine. In the recent past these fossil bones were taken from the nets by fishermen while they were fishing for flatfish like plaice, sole, flounder etc. The fossil bones need careful cleaning,( not with sweet water)slow drying and conservation.
