The approximately 4.75" x 3.75" wood stamp features a large paisley with a supporting cast. This may have at one time been part of a larger stamp but it is fun now just the way it is. This antique textile tool shows wear. Someone has affixed a hanger, so it could be used as a wall decoration. Originally used for textile design (and in all likelihood the making of batiks), this wonderful stamp, also called a chop, no doubt helped make yards and yards of colorful fabric. It is indeed very old and used. If you want to collect it just for the fun, you're good to go. If you want to use it on paper or fabric, there are a few areas of wear and loss, so you will, of course, not get a perfect stamp, but a very intersting one! It looks as if someone has painted the carved areas, which preserves the carving but also thickens the lines a bit. It would be wonderful to randomly use it on a wearable item or as a background or main attraction on yardage. Please use zoom to judge for yourself. I have not cleaned or polished this tool.
