This is a basic pillbox shape popularized by Jackie Kennedy in the 1960's. It has a head size of 22 1/2" and the circumference at its widest point is 23 1/4". It is 7" tall including the base but the finished hat would only be about 3" high. Originally it had a telescope tip but that was filled in many years ago to even out the tip. It has been well used and fixed with Dutchman repairs. These wood replacements can be seen on the inside faces in photo #6, especially where the corners of the sections meet. The base has cracks and pieces missing but this doesn't affect the function of the block. The sections don't fit together tightly and the seams may show on a fine body but these can be steamed out. The block has ben recently lacquered to prevent sticking and staining.
