Native American Indian Woodpecker Oklahoma River Cane Flute by Choctaw Flute Maker - Charles Frazier This NEW Woodpecker Oklahoma River Cane Flute was made by Charles Frazier - Native American Choctaw Craftsman from Oklahoma. He has been making and playing river cane flutes for many years. Charles Frazier has played Native American Flute for many Powwows and other groups. He has played in concert with many recognized Native American artists. He studied under the direction of Doc Tate Nevaquaya and played Flute with him on many occasions. He is recognized in Oklahoma as one of the best Native American Flute players and makers around. We sell many of his wonderful flutes in our store in Oklahoma City and I have sold many out on eBay with rave reviews from the buyers. This 6 hole flute is made from Oklahoma River Cane with an decorations of soft tan leather ties and hand painted feathers with Red Crow Beads and cones. It is signed by Charles and measures 28 1/2" long x 1" in diameter. The Wood Pecker Head is hand painted in Turquoise and Red . Be you a beginner or a seasoned flute player, you will love this flute! It is made in the key of "E flat". The Woodpecker Flute has an interesting story behind it's origin. is the story as Charles tells it, "One day as some Indian Braves were out on a hunting party, they encountered a rival tribe's Warriors. T ensued a great battle and many Braves were wounded and killed. One Brave was separated from the others and lost. Being exhausted and wounded himself, he fell into a deep sleep and was accidently left behind. When he awakened, he was disorienated and weakened. He sat at the base of a large tree in the forest and pondered his plight. He prayed for help to all the Spirits hoping they would send a sign and help him find his way home. As he was sitting t thinking, he heard a sound in the tree tops......a tap, tap, tap sound. He struggled to his weary feet and looked around for the source of the sound. It was a beautiful bird with a brilliant red head and beautiful black body. The bird flew away just a little ways and rested in the top of another tree and continued with his tap, tap, tapping. He followed the direction of the bird's flight and as soon as he caught sight of it, it flew to another tree and continued it's tap, tap, tapping. He soon realized that the bird was leading him somew so he followed it through the forest from tree to tree. Soon, he started to recognize his surroundings and lo and behold!!! - he was back safe and sound in his own village with his People who had been looking for him as they feared him dead. The Indian Brave, upon recovering from his battle wounds, made the first Wood Pecker Flute to Honor the beautiful little bird who had helped him to find his way home......thus was the beginning of the Wood Pecker Flute." Charles Frazier is a Choctaw Indian from Oklahoma. All of his craft is made in the old traditional way by hand...and symbolisms of the Native American Life. Charles is currently preparing for his 4th Sun Dance Ceremony. His craft is made with much Spirituality and Love.
