Published by J. Tonson in London in 1721 Volume one only of two. 12mo. 16 x 9 cm. Portrait Frontispiece +Lxviii + 372 pages.Cowley was one of the great writers of the period of Civil War and the Restoration . This volume contains a live of Cowley and his poems, including his cycle of love poems The Mistress. Creasing and light browning to the pages, never preventing the text being read. Some pages more heavily browned, particularly at the beginning and end of the book. A faint water stain across some pages towards the end of the book. One page with a small piece of paper torn off and missing. The frontispiece a little stained and a name in ink at the top of the title page.In a worn leather binding of approximately the date of the book.Both covers detached, the label on the spine missing and the binding very worn.
