Cover surfaces are soiled and worn, front joint cracked. Bookplate of previous owner (Ludwig Suppiger) and three cataloging notes are written on the front pastedown. Pages are clean with minimal toning, signed signatures and catch words. Preliminary binding is tender but rest of binding is tight and strong. This is the first volume of the collected works of Thomas a Kempis, a German monk best known as the author of "The Imitation of Christ," a work that appears in this volume.
