An extremely interesting Columbus Erdglobus (Globe) c 1932. With its clean lines, this model is a fine representation of the Bauhaus Style and will make quite a statement in any setting! The Bauhaus Style, also known as Modernist and Machine Age, emerged in the early 1900âe(tm)s in Berlin ( Weimar Bauhaus School of Design ) and lasted several decades. As matter of fact, the style has once again regained popularity. Politically a very interesting model as it shows the effect of the treaty of Versailles post WW1 (1914-1918). As part of the treaty Germany lost ownership over its African colonies. On this Globe they are identified as "formerâe German colonies though the word ehemalige (former) is shortened and printed in very small letters. Most intriguing is the extensive legend. It shows the industrial as well agricultural products of each country, including everything from fishing, and what type of fish to mining (from coal to diamonds), harvest of rubber as well as wheat and rice, from oil drilling to iron production and so much more. One can spend hours just reviewing the map. It has caught a moment in time, identifying trade and economics of each nation as of 1932.
