World War II MERCHANT MARINE Dog Tag-Walterboro SC-WWII You are bidding on an authentic World War II Merchant Marine dog tag. This tag originally belonged to a sailor named Barney W. Carter and was issued in December of 1943. We know based on other items from the same collection that Mr. Carter was from Walterboro, South Carolina. The tag measures 1-1/2” wide by 1-1/4” tall and is in excellent condition. All of the text, including the sailor’s name, service number, branch of service, enlistment date, and blood type is still clearly legible. T are only a couple very light and very small surface scratches. This dog tag comes with the attached chain. This authentic World War II Merchant Marine dog tag would make an excellent addition to any collection. It is one of several items from the same individual that we recently acquired. We are also offering his Sterling Silver and gold wash hat/lapel pin, a sterling silver “Brotherhood of the Sea” pin, a Sterling Silver Merchant Marine World War II Victory pin, and Mr. Carter’s 1941 dated brass South Carolina driver’s license. Additional Info:Mr. Carter was the recipient of the Merchant Marine Combat Bar, Atlantic War Zone Medal, and the Mediterranean-Middle East War Zone Medal.
