Up now is the Imperial German City State of LUBECK "Hanseatic" War Merit Iron Cross second class with original ribbon of issue. The Hanseatic Cross was a decoration of the three Hanseatic Cities of Bremen,Hamburg and Lubeck, who were member states of the Imperial German Empire during WWI. Each city-state established it's own version of this award for bravery and merit in battle. The design and award criteria were similar for each state.The LUBECK cross was instituted by the Lubeck senate on August 21,1915. This decoration was awarded for bravery,merit,valor in battle and was the egual to the Imperial German Iron Cross second class. LUBECK was the smallest of the three Hanseatic states and this decoration was awarded ONLY 8,000 times --->(RARE) to find. The Hanseatic Cross came in only one class, worn from award ribbon on the left chest. The cross is red enamel silvered cross which has the City Stae Of Lubeck coat of arms. The reverse bore the phrase "Fur Verdienst im Kriege" ("For Merit In War") and the date 1914. The ribbon in this auction is original to this piece.
