Vintage WW2 Tribute & Memorial Book: 399th Infantry *** 100th Division 185 pages In excellent condition with slight front cover ding, lower right. Rare original one family ownership book, packed away for 69 years in family cedar chest..... This book details the 399th Infantry men during their battles thru France and Germany from 1942 thru the end of the war, 1945. My cousin Vito Sciara who's memorial is listed in this book, lost his life in France near the end of the war (Nov 1944) when his battalion was surrounded by Germans who had a 'take no prisioners' policy and shot and killed the entire group. This book was presented to his mother, my aunt, upon the return of his personal effect, dog tags, and hero certificate from Harry Truman, at wars end. My aunt was heartbroken over the loss of her son and packed this book away upon receipt and never looked at it again. Two other of my cousins, Vito Biondo and James Biondo (brothers) also were killed, one in an infantry battle and one when his plane was shot down by German airfighters are also named on these pages. Both of my aunts became very active Gold Star Mothers, for the memory of their lost sons and to keep the memory alive of the horrors of war.
