GOOD to VERY GOOD CONDITION This sale is for a SCARCE little vintage hardback FIRST EDITION entitled “ The Sword of Deborah ,” subtitled “ First-Hand Impressions of the British Women’s Army in France ,” by F. Tennyson Jesse , with 8 vintage photographic illustrations, including a frontispiece depicting a “F.A.N.Y.” with the Aerial Torpedo Dropped into the Camp. It was published by William Heinemann, of London , in 1919 and appears to be the FIRST EDITION. The British Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (1917–1918) or W.A.A.C., later named Queen Mary's Army Auxiliary Corps (1918–1920). Over 57,000 women served between January 1917 and November 1918. On 31 March 1917 women in the WAAC were first sent to the battlefields in France, just 14 cooks and waitresses. The book measures 7 inches x 4.75 inches and has 136 pages + illustrations. The book is in very good condition for its age, neat and clean, with minor wear/bumps and heavy wear/tears to the original dust-jacket (minor loss to the edges of the jacket), a previous owner’s erased name at the front and no other ink or pencil markings in the book.
