Excellent and extremely rare identified and armed photograph for the advanced collector. An exceptional photograph of Marine Corporal George F. Madison, service number 118361, served in the 47th (Mike) Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, Expeditionary Forces (AEF). Madison would enlist into the Marines on 17 April 1917. "At 17:00 on 6 June, the 3rd Battalion 5th Marines (3/5)—commanded by Major Benjamin S. Berry, and the 3rd Battalion 6th Marines (3/6)—commanded by Major Tyler M. Meyer, on their right—advanced from the west into Belleau Wood as part of the second phase of the Allied offensive." The 3rd Battalion spearheaded the center of the attack at Belleau Wood. Corporal Madison is also noted as having participated in the battle of Blanc Mont Ridge in Champagne, France. This imagine was removed from a period album, making Madison easier to identify, most Marine images are nearly impossible to identify by name and unit. Image has excellent focus and tonal value, none better. Probably taken in France or Germany shortly after the war ended during occupation duty, this would explain the Army uniform which was issued to all Marines to lessen logistic problems.
