This is a rare item that you don't happen to find very often. It is a heavy large U.S. Military horse/mule halter that is most likely from WW1. It is marked in two places and one of the markings is shown in the third picture where it looks as though the marking is "E.H.S." or maybe "R.H.S.". Then it is marked on one of the side or cheek pieces with "..........Arsenal E.H.S." and this marking is shown twice in pictures #4 & #5. In that marking the word "Arsenal E.H.S." can be made out, but there are some other words just above those markings that are too worn to actually make out, but if you catch them at just the right angle they rather look like they could read "Rock Island". It is more on the lines of a heavy draft type of Military animal -- such as the types that were used to pull the heavy equipment during the war, either maybe a mule or a large work horse. The leather is black in color and over-all in nice condition for it's age. The halter has been used and it does have a lot of surface cracking of the leather as seen in the pictures. There is one area though where it does appear quite worn and that area is shown in the last two pictures (#11 & #12). But over all the leather is pretty good, read more
