NO RESERVE SO BID TO BUY! AN ORIGINAL PERIOD INSIGNIA AND NOT A MODERN COPY. WW1 United States Army patch for the 83rd Infantry Division -- Ohio. Wool felt construction with the central element of real metal bullion cord, which has oxidized to black. The ends of the bullion cord were stuck through the backing before the patch was sewn on -- so they undoubtedly go through the patch also. The green backing measures approximately 5" x 5". The patch itself measures approximately 2 7/8" across at the widest. Intricate! Note that t is a notch in the green backing, no problems with the patch. This design was worn from December 1918 to December 1965 and the central design is actually a cryptic spelling of "Ohio." This was removed by me personally from a patch blanket that was put together at the end of WW1 by an American coat manufacturer in Kentucky with a contract to produce patches for the government. Purchased by me from a non-collector source (the grandson of the company owner) and never on the collector market before. Guaranteed original and of the period and not a collector copy. I have included a partial scan of the patch blanket (not included in the auction, obviously); the blanket could not be maintained intact because of damage to a portion and because the interconnecting threads were disintegrating.
