This is a handmade, museum-quality reproduction of a wool cover for the Austro-Hungarian 1915-1918 enameled steel 1/2-liter water flask. [Flask in photo is NOT for sale.] It is made of brown or feldgrau vintage military wool obtained in Italy and handstitched by historian/collector Jay C. Richards, using original vintage German Army tan cotton thread. A cotton cord ties the cover securely around the top of the flask. (Many of the originals were handmade by the soldiers in the trenches from scraps of wool, canvas or linen cloth.) The wool cover will cushion and protect the ceramic enamel covering of the flask and lining of the steel cup when attached much better than canvas or linen covers.. For reenactors, the cover will also act as insulation to keep water cooler during the summer "battles" and help keep water from freezing during the winter "campaigns" in the Tyrol. Excellent for collectors, museums or reenactors who want to complete their flask sets. Wool covers for the M1888 enameled steel flasks (usually dark brown with rounded bottoms and slightly smaller in length) are available for substitution on request.
