is the patch, picture and letter that you have been waiting for!! The Timber Wolf patch was worn from the period of 22 July 1924, through 10 July 1959. This particular patch is the last of the five patches I have listed. I have saved the best for last! The Timber Wolf patch was redesigned 104th Training Division and worn from 10 June 1959, and is still currently being worn. is a bit of info on the timber wolf and what it represents: It is a hearty, and vigorous animal that resides in the western states. They are known for their tenacity in pursuit of accomplishing a mission. They work together as a unified group with purpose. This patch was worn during World War II in Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe is a bit of general information I gleaned from some kind collectors, willing to share their knowledge with others about military patches. Prior to 1945, borax was generally the material used to whiten fabric. In around 1944, the Germans developed a chemical whitener. Material whitened with borax does not glow under blacklight and material whitened with chemical whiteners does glow. So if white material does not glow under blacklight it is probably pre 1945 manufacture. However, things will also glow if launderered in modern detergent. Some late war German things will glow also.... This patch up for auction does not glow under a black light so it is a pre 1945 patch plus the letter verifies this to be true. It is in excellent condition with an unusual shiny, silver edging and a dark emerald green woolen or felt background. The timberwolf is edged and highlighted on his ears, teeth, mouth, eye and fur behind his face with a very heavy, shiny silver metalic looking thread. It is very simular to the one I had up for auction last week, but in much better condition! I don't believe it has been worn because it shows no sign of wear, especially on the face. His face is a shiny beige color with silver highlights. This patch is very well done, like the one I sold last week but the edging is much more detailed. The wolf is very realistic looking! This is a very rare patch in excellent condition! It is from the Army Timber Wolf 104th division during World War II. At auction, we purchased this patch along with many other personal affects belonging to the soldier in the picture. You can see a timber wolf patch on his left shoulder. The picture and letter you see in the listing are also being auctioned together with this patch. The letter does have a slight tear on the fold line due to age, and probably from being carried around in this soldier's pocket, but it is very readable. He had several timberwolf patches, I assume from his other sets of uniforms. I have sold all but this one. This is one of his two handmade timber wolf patches, most likely made by the locals w he was stationed in Northern France, Rhineland or Central Europe.is a copy of a note I received answering my questions about U.S. Military handmade patches: Re: Your recent inquiry. As in any field of collecting, variations and unusual examples of standard items will command a premium prices. In the case of WW2 military patches, many were made, by the local inhabitants, in the theatre of operation w the U.S. military supply lines were exclusively used for war material and was not concerned with providing shoulder patches for the troops. Many soldiers purchased from the local inhabitants patches that were, handmade, using techniques and materials that happened to be on-hand in their town or city at the time. Of course cloth material was in short supply to the general public in a war zone as their personal supply lines were also disrupted. These patches were made in a limited quantity and once the war, and the U.S. soldiers, passed them by, never to return again, their source for selling these handmade patches was exhausted; hence the rarity and value or certain U.S. Military patches patches. I hope this information has been of some use to yo...
