For auction today I have an early WW2 era Mauser 98k bayonet. It is the 1884/98 model with steel scabbard. The markings are:The blade has S/184G on the left side. This is Josua Corts un Sohn, Remschied. The right side is marked 7944 e.The Scabbard is marked S/244G on the back. This is Mundlos AG Nahmachinenfabrik,Magdeburg,Nord. The front is marked 3130 b, though a bit of pitting makes this hard to read. The condition overall is very good. The blade is unsharpened, with no nicks, the tip is sharp. The finish is well blued: it could have been reblued. The handle fittings show a well aged patina proper for its age. The grips are smooth and solid and look to be original. The locking lug is functional. There is pitting on the back plate of the handle and small part of the top back of the blade. The scabbard is solid and the bayonet is easy to remove and sheath. There is numerous areas of pitting all over the scabbard and a few dents on the back about center. The frog lug has pitting and rusty spots too.I am no expert on German bayonets, but have tried to provide as much as I know. This is a piece of history from over 70 years ago, so please don't expect mint condition. It is a solid, real example of WW2 German bayonets.Thank you for looking.
