antique original WW 2 world war two WWII EGW fighting knife a waterman made military utility knife - these were inexpensive ,..yet very durable and well made probably the 'cheapest' knife ever issued during the war made with a stacked leather handle, and a distinctive EGW lanyard ring at the end of the pommel - the bright blade is in excellent condition ,.. unmarked , but unquestioningly a EGW knife ,. early issue ,.as it does not have the typical can opener notch ,... it comes in a very rare black rubber , synthetic -man made material scabbard / sheath i have never seen a scabbard made like this ,.. it dates from the first few months of 1942 ,when leather was almost impossible to obtain waterman experimented with a substitute or ersatz rubber sheath ,.. it probably caused the blade to rust so they continued to use real leather,.. this is a well made fighting knife- an ugly design , yet a well designed personal weapon it fits the hand well - produced when the government was struggling to supply every solider and fighting man with a strong utility / fighting knife -- ------ these were used by every branch of the military ,.... including the U.S. marine corps / USMC , army , airborne - paratroop ,.. navy & USN , a very scarce variation with no signs of rust and it has not been over sharpened or ground down . a scarce variant read more
