WW2 RAF STATION ENSIGN c.1940-1942 guaranteed 100% original official issue Not to be confused with a cheap printed flag or post-war nylon flag. Large standard RAF station ensign manufactured from 34 different stitched panels, with a hemp rope and brass Inglefield clips. Condition is simply exceptional… This flag has not seen a lot of service, not to say it is unused! Colors are still vibrant, the tape bunting (a wool material feeling like linen) is almost undamaged with only a couple of very small rust stains, and very light mothing. 6 x 3ft / approx 1.82 x 0.91m. The header is lightly marked PORTER BROS LTD (*) 6 x 3 with a faded contract number and broad arrow. As the majority of the wartime British flags it is undated, but the type and quality of manufacture, the natural materials used, the 1930's Admiralty pattern brass Inglefield clips, clearly indicate an early-war production. Please note : Made as per British Admiralty regulation, the RAF ensigns were marked with the broad arrow like Royal Navy flags, and not with the AM markings. (*) Founded in 1905, Porter Brothers were renowned British flag manufacturers. The company made the flag carried by Scott during his expedition to the South Pole in 1911.
