This liner unit was taken out of a postwar reissue German M40 helmet used by the Norwegian police. The leather liner and chinstrap have been dyed red. This red dye can easily be removed with acetone. After removing the dye, the leather can be treated with vaseline to restore suppleness. The liner size is 64/56. The liner appears to be made of zinc, and is dated 1940. I cannot make out the manufacturer name, however, due to wear. T are no obvious weaknesses in the metal band or leather. T is a small cut on the chinstrap, but this does not detract from it or substantially weaken it in my opinion. The leather strap is in relatively good shape, but I would be careful if you plan to remove it, as the leather is rather dry around the rivets. I cannot make out the RF number on the chin strap, but it ends in /005. This is a very nice, original and rare WW2 issue German helmet liner and chinstrap ideal for refurbishing an M40 German helmet.
