For auction is a US WW2 fixed bale, front seam M1 helmet and WW2 liner. These were reconditioned in '94 (before the availability of reproduction parts),with original parts, for reenacting and living history use. HELMET: Exterior has aprox. 80% of the original WW2 cork texture and original paint, some shallow dings on the dome, and a 1 inch split at center rear (pic #3). Interior: bales are solid, khaki chin strap webbing is from WW2 gas mask bags made with the correct steel hardware in 1994 and the helmet marked "c/s repl 3/94" (c/s=chin straps). Shallow rust spot inside the dome matches the top of the original liner. Stamped "64?B". LINER: Manufactured by International Molded Plastics (IMP), one of the WW2 contractors, and has the "little man" stamp with the number 3. Has a 1 inch gash at rear top. (pic#10) This liner was mated to this steel pot prior to being worked on by a friend and fellow reenactor. The original suspension was bad so he used a WW2 khaki OD #3 suspension from a seriously split liner and attached it to this one using flat top rivets.(domed ones were not available at the time) The suspension shows signs of use but was, and still is solid and servicable. The nape strap is a one- piece OD#3 HBT marked with "S.M.C. small" and a QM number. Leather chin strap is a late WW2 one with the black buckle and is still pliable. read more
