RARE WW2 (1942) RAF MK.4 BROAD ARROW JAEGER LECOULTRE 8 DAYS MILITARY AIRCRAFT COCKPIT CLOCK Up for sale is a rare and collectible Royal Air Force (RAF) MK.IV Jaeger LeCoultre 8 Days military aircraft clock. This watch has been manufactured around 1942. The movement, is in great working condition, keeping good time, and has a winding and setting mechanism through the crown at 12:00.The watch is preserved in excellent collectible condition and it's fully original. The watch comes with the military original aluminum green painted mounting, which is really a bonus.The 100% Original radium luminous Arabic black aviation dial features the "8 Days" and "MK.IV" lettering just above and beyong the center. The dial is fitted with original luminous hands set and large center seconds hand . The dial and hands are in original condition and they have never been refinished. The seconds hand is a later addition but fits excellent to the watch. This example has one of the most collectible MK.4 black dials; with a rather pedantic design, popular during war times, showing only the essential. Needless to say the Jaeger MK.4 cockpit clocks are quite rare, especially with a crown mounting at 12.The flat mineral crystal is in excellent condition. The 100% Original aluminum case is in great condition for it's age with visible signs of wear or marks mostly from storage or service. The back case shows a small aluminum tag plate, marked A.M., MFR'S. MODEL 43A-4, JAEGER WATCH CO. INC, U.S.A. The case is also marked ADJ. Under the tag we can see the 106A/322 and 1630/42 markings and the BROAD ARROW above them. On side case, we see another marking 14MU/12/68/R. The case and mounting remain in original condition. They were never restored, just like the rest of the watch. These watches were fitted with the LeCoultre cal. 201 (some signed LeCoultre, some signed only Jaeger). When wounded, the movement seems to be in good condition , keeping excellent time. The service history is unknown. A bit of history about the watch: "A.M." stands for the Air Ministry, later known as MoD (Ministry of Defence). "106A/322" is the RAF Stores Section and Ref. #, an internal code allocated by the Military Service Stores system."106A" code identifies the clock as an American aircraft instrument."1630/42" is the clock serial number indicating that it was assembled in 1942 - making it almost as old as the owner. (similar to USAAF 94-27221; so very little research on the US archive is known, so this could be a good start). The movement was imported by Jaeger New York, USA. Just by looking inside the case-back we see the manufacturer's mark, indicating that the case was made in the USA and later exported to UK. In 1942, United States were freshly engaged in the WW2 which makes this a historical war product. Another interesting stamp we see inside back is Jan 1944 and an R letter.According to the side marks - "14MU/12/68/R ", this clock was last serviced by the military in 1968. The watch was, most likely in storage, after it has been considered obsolete, in one of the 3 - 14MU RAF stations (Aircraft Equipment Depot / Equipment Storage Depot).Clock case measures ~58x68 mm w/ mounting | ~110x69x73x57mm w/ mounting | Thickness ~32 mm Overall condition: Very good considering the age; with signs of wear from storage and use. The watch looks really nice. All functions work correctly.
