Up for auction is a super-nice example of one of the harder-to-find Royal Canadian Air Force zip ear flying helmets, a design closely patterned on the RAF's Fleet Air Arm C-type helmet. An example of this helmet can be seen on page 227 of Mick Prodger's "must-have" reference for collectors "Vintage Flying Helmets." The helmet looks to be in excellent, un-issued condition. The exterior khaki canvas fabric is free of rips, tears or seam separations and shows only some minor surface soiling from storage. The fact that the interior felt lining is so clean leads me to believe that this helmet was never worn. All straps and buckles are intact and in good order. The size tag inside indicates this is a size 4, or extra-large. T are no other tags present. The leather receiver pouches are soft and supple. Both zippers (marked "Canada") operate smoothly. Inside each pouch is one of the proper foam rubber forms that help the pouches keep their shape.
