Sgt. Len Owens, Military Medal, served in the Second World War Combined Operations, Phantom Signals (a behind the lines signallers unit) and then the 1st and 2nd Special Air Service where he was Paddy Mayne's Signaller when Paddy was recommended for a Victoria Cross. This 12x8" print depicts Colonel Paddy Mayne, commander and original member of the Special Air Service Regiment in 1941 who took over the SAS when David Stirling was captured. He then led 1SAS in the Normandy campaign in France. He is depicted manning anSAS Jeep with the famous Major Ian Fenwick, CO of D Squadron, 1SAS who was an accomplished cartoonist, both before the War and during his exploits in Normandy, where he was killed in action attacking a German machine gun post in his MG armed Jeep such as the one illustrated. The Paddy Mayne and Ian Fenwick autograph facsimiles from an original. The Len Owen autograph is his original on this print. Since 2002 Sergeant Len Owens, MM, of the WW2 Phantom Squadron and SAS, has signed items to aid the Allied Special forces Memorial Grove and I recommend a visit to this poignant site to brave soldiers of the SAS and also a fine Phantom Garden remembering fallen Phantoms and French Resistance who protected them from the Germans. A "thank you for your donation" to the Grove Fund will be included with your item. Plus a copy read more
