This is a vintage, pinback from World War Two to 1950 for the US Army's 59th Armored Infantry Battalion / Regiment. This Distinctive Unit Insignia / DUI is a single pin, a pin-back, shield/crest for the 59th Infantry Regiment, a pinback, with no hallmark. This is a real, vintage, nice and minty piece of distinctive insignia DI...but it is also rare and from an AWESOME unit! The 59 th infantry regiment of the US Army really got around! The 59th Inf. Reg't was around in World War One, with the AEF in europe. In those days they were part of the 4th Infantry Division on the western front. They fought at Champagne /Champaign in Aisne-Marne, at Lorraine / St Mihiel, and at the Meuse-Argonne. They really fought hard at Chateau-de-Diable on the Vesle River. They practiced and trained between the wars, and then they were part of the US Army Organized Reserves. They were still named the 59 th infantry regiment in 1940/ 1941. Then they were assigned to the 13th armored division, and in 1942 or 1943 they got renamed as the 13th armored infantry regiment. Sometime in late 1943 they bacame a BATALLION! They got sent overseas to the ETO in 1944 or 1945, and by January of '45 they were in Europe, going to France and Germany! Their mother division, the 13th Armored Division, lost 105 men killed in action KIA. They lost 366 men wounded in action WIA
