It has been over several years since I have located a WWII US Navy WAVES Woman's Overseas Cap. you have a regulation issue overseas cap for women in the Navy. The cap includes the approval tag, a nametag, and a size tag. Women's military caps are near impossible to locate. I can attend the local, regional monthly military show and not see a single piece of woman's uniform items. The cap is in near mint condition. It is made of blue gabardine wool. Gabardine wool holds up to the test of time really well. Like the Army and Army Air Force counterparts, the overseas cap is shaped like a crescent moon. The cap has retained its shape. T is no fading, soiling, stains, fraying, or moth damage. The cap is large. It fits my 7 ¼ cap size. It measures 11 inches in length not factoring in the arch. T is a dark rayon liner. The W.A.V.E.S. label is present. The size tag reads 21 ½. On the nametag is inked the name, Arline Bissonette. The cap is named and could be researched, and thus have provenance. Named WWII items command a premium given the direct tie to the serviceman or woman. The cap is fabulously preserved and is in near mint condition. It also represents a rare uniform item from WWII. Further, women of the Greatest Generation are coming into their own and finally being recognized for their contributions to the war effort and service to our country. Collectors, re-enactors and investors are seeking women's WWII memorabilia and this piece represents a highly scarce, named item. The dark navy blue cap would have been worn in the winter, on the East Coast, and in England during the war.
