Here we have a piece of Trench art from the 1st World War, made from a used brass shell. I am not sure what the object is, as it is incomplete, but my best guess is that it is in the shape of a coal scuttle, which you often see silver plated versions which are sugar basins. It should have a third leg at the front and a handle. What is unusual it is that it is inscribed "Loos 5th September 1915" and scrolling leaves. The shell would clean up well and would benefit with something dark rubbed into the inscription. The details of the 13pdr shell is clearly seen in the photo and is date 1915. I am sure some one clever could replace the missing pieces. --5.3/4in. (14.5cm.) long. Please email for further details, I have estimated postage fairly high as it's heavy, but will refund the difference. Thank you for bidding.
