See the images. Up for auction is an high quality WWI bronze athletic award to a member of the AEF stationed in France in 1919. Size 38mm, obverse "DIVISIONAL-ATHLETICS, AMERICAN EXPEDITIONARY FORCES" dated 1919 and reverse "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "Private J. M. Pasquarillo, Basketball". Hallmark to reverse "Tiffany & Co." Condition about fine, as illustrated with some surface wear. Evidently carried by the recipient as a pocket piece or worn as an award. I have previously tonight listed this Marine's larger 1919 AEF games medal (on which is name is spelled Pasquarello and it is noted that he was a member of the 11th Marines of the 5th Marine Brigade, AEF). I have only seen three or four of these in forty years and none have had a ribbon, so I think they were awarded with a neck cord. After the Armistice, the 1919 American athletic games were a big deal, involving numerous sports and some great Olympic level U.S. athletes. NOTE: I am very good about getting my orders out promptly. FREE SHIPPING TO CONTINENTAL US. PAY PAL is now eBay's "required" payment method. I prefer PayPal. Any questions on that, just contact me. Thanks. George B. Harris, P.O. Box 1136, Alfred, NY 14802.
