I'm dramatically reducing the size of my personal collection and will be posting many items over the coming weeks, so please check out my other current auctions and keep your eyes peeled for new ones in the days ahead! This is one of many vintage military items I'll be auctioning this week. It's a First World War-vintage Pyrene fire extinguisher, as was used on small aircraft and a variety of ships of the time, including the earliest submarines. If you have the DVD of U-571, take a look at the scene before the re-fitted sub left port. T, on the wall, is an extinguisher exactly like this one, which is dated 1915. The last photo is from a 1920s aviation products catalog, showing this type of item as it was advertised during that time. This is really a beautiful piece, and I'm hard-pressed to sell it. But I've had it for years and no longer have room for it. The item is in super condition overall. It appears to be solid brass, and would shine up wonderfully with a bit of polish and elbow grease. No significant dings, and a great data plate with all sorts of information on it. Best of all, the plunger still works back and forth, and locks down into position, just like it did (maybe not as smoothly) all those years ago. This would make a wonderful display piece for your nautical collection. It measures about 19" long and about 13.
