I am downsizing and so reducing my militaria collection. This is a British forces map case dated 1944. It is not like the usual map case, the proportions are quite different. I have done some research and the only thing I have found about this particular type was on the Radmilitaria website and was as follows: .... " This case is a special pattern map case which was specially designed for Commandos & Parachute units. It also uses the early pattern silver Newey pattern poppers and stud closures "...... The measurements when closed are 11 inches (28cms.) x 6 inches (15.2cms.) and when open are 16.5 inches (42cms.) x 11 inches (28cms.) with the top flaps closed. It is clearly stamped "Leather Products 1944" with the broad arrow crowsfoot WD mark on the inside of one of the top flaps. It is also stamped 45 with another crowsfoot arrow mark on another top flap. There is the number 22 written in pencil on the inside. Also has the letters E J written in pencil on the inside of the centre flap. I presume these are the initials of the owner. The case opens up into like three compartments with celluloid fronts enabling the soldier to read the map inside. There is a loose cover over the central panel. (Please view all the pictures as they clearly show everything.) There is a large pouch on the front (or the back, not sure which is which!) and read more
