This week we are offering some exceptional photographs from an important Canadian collection. The collection was acquired from the Toronto, Ontario estate of RCAF Flight Lieutenant Norman Smith, who was head of the photographic section of the 110th Canadian Squadron. Smith was awarded the MBE for his contributions to the war effort. The 110th had the distinction of being the very first Royal Canadian Air Force contingent to set foot on British soil in WWII, and as head of photography for the group, Flight Lieutenant Smith amassed a fantastic collection of images during his time overseas, including many from the time leading up to and after D-Day. These photographs are all guaranteed to be original period images, NOT modern re-prints.This particular lot from his collection includes eight extremely interesting WWII Canadian photographs, nearly all of which were taken post-D-Day up to the Battle of the Rhineland. There is one early photo of a camouflage Canadian communications trailer which is dated 1940. One photo shows the famous Xanten Tactical Bridge, another shows a line of American and Canadian vehicles going through a bombed out town. A couple others show Canadian transport vehicles.
