WWII HELVETIA GS/TP BRITISH MILITARY ISSUE POCKET WATCH - EXCELLENT CONDITION This watch is working well and keeps good time. I would describe the general condition as excellent, with no major marks or damage visible. The glass is remarkably clean with only a few tiny scratches and minor abrasion near the rim, visible on very close inspection. The case, which I think is nickel plated, is also very good although there are two tiny, rough spots on the rim, which look like very small abrasions. They are hardly noticeable until the watch is examined closely. The movement bears the following: 'HELVETIA', 'SWISS MADE', 'GENERAL WATCH CO SWITZERLAND' and '32A'. Inside the back case is '6010'. On the back of the watch is 'GS/TP', 'P46216' and a broad arrow shape pointing upwards. From a little research, I understand that 'GS' stands for 'GENERAL SERVICE' and 'TP' for 'TRADE PATTERN', that is to say that it was issued generally to the British Military during WWII and that it was purchased 'off the shelf', rather than being specifically designed to military specifications. 'P46216' is a maker's mark and serial number. The arrow shape indicates military issue. This watch belonged to my late grandfather, who died in 1980. Since that time, it has been stored in a warm, dry environment, in a chest of drawers, and has never been exposed to a read more
