German Ixe Axe Hiking Stick . Vintage original condition. Cast head and tip. 100% functional structurally sound and beautiful! 35 inches (89cm) long. The head is 9 inches (23cm) long. Comes with two staffs. Leather grip. The Head carries the old Alpine symbols -goat, eagle, eagle feather & flower. (Sorry do not know the name of the flower.) Gebirgsjaeger reunion commemorative. It is a beautiful cast piece in perfect shape with minor patina. It also has the leather grip. These grips were made to protect the hand from the cold. I have put leather conditioner on it since it was completely dried out. The Staff - there are two. The original one with the burned out inscriptions is functional with some small nail holes and small knicks. Patina not damage! It is also inscribed with the anniversary date and unit: 3/GEB FM BTL 8 I. ZUG DEZ -REZ '78 0G DAXLBERGER . This is burned into the wood using a "hot nail method". The one that is attached to the head is just plain wood. This is a reunion hiking staff that looks like an Ice Axe. This was given as a memento of the reunion of the 3 Gebirgsjager in 1978. The head is stunning ! The seller gave me the original staff that it came with as an afterthought. She told me this is an old reunion stick. I did not really check it out until it was too late.
