WWII Imperial Japanese Navy Lt. Commander Service Dress Tunic, Officer's Hat, Sword and Belt Wonderful IJN set with Officer's cap, ribbons and dress sword. is your chance to own an almost complete Imperial Japanese Navy Senior officer's service dress set. The only thing missing are the pants and shoes. Included are the service dress tunic, which is of a light weight wool in dark navy blue with black tape trim. The tunic is held together in front with a series of hooks and eyes. T are three missing eyes but the tunic displays well regardless. The interior, which does not have a tailor's tag or name, has three interior pockets. On the outside are black rank lace curls for Lt. Commander rank. On the collare are two beautifully preserved collar tabs for an officer of the line. The tunic is in great shape with one minor moth hole and some slight staining or scuffing to the back. I believe these scuffs would come out with a good dry cleaning but I have not had it done. The tunic also features a very nice original row of ribbons mounted on a metal clip bar and looped through stitched thread. The ribbons include the Order of the Golden Kite, Order of the Rising Sun, Showa Enthronement Medal, 1931 China Incident medal, 1937 China Incident Medal, 2,600 Empire Anniversary Medal and Red Cross Medal. Also included with the tunic is a fantastic Naval officer's cap. This is in solid shape and is named to a tailor or the owner on the inside. Inside is the original silk lining and celluloid sweat shield. The leather sweatband is still in place. The visor is somewhat dry and has some slight crazing. T are two small cracks at the very edge of the brim w the hat stresses. I have had this hat stored flat in a ziploc bag all this time and only put it on this very small head for these photos. The insignia is in beautiful shape with no missing bullion or verdigris. The two hat buttons are present and solidly stitched. Also included is the Naval Officer's Dress Sword and Sword Belt. With this uniform, the swordbelt was worn under the tunic as shown. Only the sword hilt appeared out of the side vent. The sword itself is in solid shape with no missing pieces. The hilt is alltogether and tight. T is original gilt on the handguard and the ray skin grip is clean. The wire wrap is tight. The plated blade is straight and has no nicks or cuts. T are some slight areas of missing plate w it has lifted off from the tip and in a small portion in the middle. These areas are slight and in keeping with the age of the blade. The scabbard is dry and the leather needs care. It is not broken but appears somewhat fragile. I have had it stored away so as not to damage it. The drag and other metal parts still retain some of their original gilt. The included swordbelt is in great shape and the leather is still supple. All parts are present and working. The buckle is still sharp in detail. The black polish has worn along the edges w the leather shows through but t is no rot or cracks. I have many uniforms but this is the only Imperial Japanese Naval officer I have had the chance to own. I need to move it on to make room for more aviation related material. This is the same uniform that could have been worn by pilots as well as by other line officers. T were some slight changes that could have been present for technical personnel in the collar tabs but this was not common for line officers.
