I am no expert but this looks to me like a world war II Japanese sword that was cut off and carried by a GI. T is no scabbard. The blade looks to be period cut. Has original lanyard chord, or sword knot. Grip is loose. Has some faint numbers on blade. Handle is some type of metal and looks likes it was painted brown at one time. Blade is dark with no major pitting. Pictures speak for themselves, you be the judge.
