Up for auction is a World War II - Korea Conflict (1944-1957) U.S. Navy Aviators package. Lt. William Riley was attached to patrol squadron VP-MS-9. Originally established as VP-19, Feb. 1, 1944. It was redesignated as MEDIUM PATROL SQUADRON (Seaplane) VP-MS-9 on Nov. 15, 1944 and then redesnigated as VP-49 on Sept. 1, 1948. As VP-MS-9 was only in existance for a few years I would think the patch and large decal are quite rare. The VP-MS- decal is in good usable condition even though the backing paper is a little rough around the edges. The very large USNAF Annapolis decal has been folded but the image remains unbroken so it could be used.(In addition to the items pictured there is a large quantity of clippings, "Spindrift Magazines From the U.S. Navy Pre-Flight School Iowa City, Iowa 1944-1945, several copies of "The Flying K" the weekly news publication of NAAS, Kingsville, Texas. In the interior pocket of the Aviators Flight Log Book are several qualification certificates. Lt. Riley designed and constructed a multiple flare system to warn pilots coming in for landing with their wheels up, (see photo)
