This is an ORIGINAL WWII U.S. issue M-1936 musette bag, recently through a veteran's estate sale. These were carried by American Paratroopers of the 82nd & 101st Airborne Divisions during the D-day landings at Normandy! This pack is in EXCELLENT CONDITION, showing no rips or significants staining. This has the early war O.D. #3 (khaki) color & a strong "U.S." stencil on the flap. All of the buckles, brass buttons & straps are intact, showing little or no evidence of corrosion or fraying. The interior pockets & tent peg loop are intact & show no fraying. The interior of the flap bears the following faded maker's mark & date: C.W. BRENEMAN 1943 What makes this musette bag a true gem are the ORIGINAL MARKINGS stenciled on the flap by the U.S. Army Captain who carried it. The exterior of the flap bears his name, rank & service number: CAPT. J.W. FLEMING JR O 424507 This six-digit service number indicates that Capt. Fleming received his commission no later than 1940. T are also a series of large, faded numbers & letters stenciled on the back of this pack & what appears to be another series of numbers stenciled on the bottom of the pack, which have been obscured with O.D. paint.
