This is an outstanding WWII SAILOR Navy/Naval Collection of 54 letters, photos, Sailor Cap, Army Button, Valentine Card to Mom and other personal paperwork from Gerry H. Stead aboard the LCI 406 'G' (GUNBOAT) SHIP in World War II in the Southern Pacific area. It details his WWII Naval career from 1943 (seamans school,basic traiing,etc) to 1946 (when he was discharged). The letters are anyw from 1-6 pages each and are loaded with personal info, life aboard ship, meals, buddies, detailed initiation process for "pollywogs" by veteran sailors aboard ship, islands visited and MUCH more--> INCLUDING PEARL HARBOR Visit, Blowing up a GERMAN SUBMARINE, HAND-DRAWN WWII PICTURES by Gerry, food, visiting various Islands and additional BATTLE and other letter notations. T are 46 Letters with Envelopes including, United States Navy letterhead, Vmail and Naval Censor Passed letters and 8 Letters without Covers. The photos include pictures of Gerry as a boy and even him in a GOAT CART dated 1928! Various letter notations include: ' At Sea....report of a sub in the area. A sub chaser went after it and started dropping depth charges...We all ran to battle stations and waited while Capt Brown our skipper ran our ship after it. Finally the report came that it was sunk'. ..."we were in Pearl Harbor..as you have guessed, can't say much about it for now.
