They were called the "crusher" cap because when they were issued to the officers, they would remove the wire brim inside the cap so the flight headset would fit more comfortably. After a few missions, the cap would appear "crushed" and hence the name. A "crushed" cap would also signify that the wearer had flown many missions and was not a rooky. Very desirable! Cap is made with a 100% wool elastic body, just like the original, with a soft genuine leather brim and adjustable buckle in back. Also includes a WWII-style officers cap device, (badge), as shown.
