Vtg WWII F-S FAIRBAIRN SYKES British Army Fighting Knife/Dagger-Commando - c1943On auction is an original Fairbairn Sykes British commando knife with original leather sheath, made in Sheffield England.. The leather & brass sheath shows some damage (pictured), otherwise this very collectible double-edged knife is tight and in very good condition (pictured). This handsome daggar comes with a black cast metal grip developed by William Ewart Fairbairn and Eric Anthony Sykes before World War II. It was made famous during the War when issued to British Commandos, including the SAS. The Fairbairn-Sykes knife is now of interest to collectors, because of its sleek lines and its commando associations. This knife was designed exclusively for surprise attack and fighting. The slender blade can easily penetrate a ribcage and the vase handle grants precise grip. The double-edged blade is integral to its design. The balance of a Fairbairn-Sykes is a crucial part of the design and it takes careful forging and production to ensure that the knife balances exactly as designed, and the hilt fits easily in the hand. The knive and leather sheath with a metal tip were designed so it can be easily stowed in a boot or attached to a belt..
