Up for auction is an original World War II Rifle Bayonet, from research I believe is for a M1 Garand Rifle. The base of the blade is marked "AFH" and below that is the flaming bomb insignia sitting between the U and the S and below that is 1942. The Bayonet also comes in a matched Scabbard sheath that is also marked with the flaming bomb and U.S. but has rust and a few small dings. This is an as is auction being that t is an inconspicuous repair to the Bayonet handle. As you can see t are digs is the back blunt side of the blade, looks as if it was used has a hammer at some time, and in doing so the handle was broken off. The repair consists of; two small interior welds as shown in the two photos with arrows. One photo shows the two small welds with hand grips removed, and the second photo shows them concealed with hand grips. The large and very lethal 16" blade has the original factor edge, NOT deformed NOT resharpened. Measurements are as follows: total length in Scabbard 21 5/8", tip of handle to tip of blade 20 5/8", blade 16", Scabbard 17 ¼".
