This Carcharocles megalodon (Extinct Megalodon Shark) fossil shark tooth was recovered from the dredge spoil of the St. Johns River in Florida. It has a wonderful tan and almost reddish color to the blade, bourlette, and root. It also has excellent serrations. It is also well fossilized and mineralized, weighing in at 13 oz. The bump on the root is very large, I've been told this is rather common on Megs of this size by other experienced fossil hunters however I just don't see this too often. I suspect it was an infection of some sort or a very large nutrient groove. Whatever the cause, I find it interesting. Heavy and massive boat traffic, dredging, and crazy currents make this river undiveable for fossils. Take a look around at what else is for sale from this location, then come back and think about purchasing this tooth. This Meg measures 5.44 inches. Max slant length for all measurements. No repair or restoration, just as it was found. I know since I had the joy of finding this tooth! Free shipping on this item, or 5.00 off International shipping.
