This is a New York Central long bell 6 chime brass steam whistle. This design may have also been used on the Boston and Albany, the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie, and elsewhere in the New York Central System. The whistle is 6 inches in diameter and 22 inches long. The bell is 15 1/4 inches long. The bowl of this whistle has L18344 cast in relief and also stamped on it. Below that the number 130 is stamped. E10968 is stamped on the other side of the bowl with 13 0 stamped below. That stamped E might be an L. The top has AN 365 cast in relief. The whistle weighs 45 pounds. This is New York Central's version of the Nathan long bell 6. The cut up is 2 1/8 inches. The chamber lengths are, clockwise, 5 1/2, 7, 8 3/8, 9 3/4, 11 1/2, and 13 inches. This will sound very similar to the SP 6 chime that was sold on ebay a few days ago. The lowest 2 tones for this whistle will be lower in pitch.A P&LE whistle with the same ID on the bowl was sold on ebay a few years ago. I also have another whistle with both NYC and L18344 cast in relief on the bowl. The previous owner said that this whistle was last used on a loco in a gravel pit or coal mine near Hudson, NY.This is a great chance to get a RARE whistle that will also sound amazing!FLAT RATE shipping of $80 in the lower US 48 states.
