A Collectible Certificate from the World-Famous NEW YORK CENTRAL RAILROAD It is a $1000 Gold Bearer Bond. When issued in 1913 these Certificates were virtually the same as Cash because they were payable to whoever happened to possess them - hence the term "Bearer" Bond - in GOLD ! It features a Magnificent Engraving of an Old-Time Electric Locomotive from the GOLDEN AGE OF TRAINS ! The Locomotive is a Third-Rail Electric built in 1904* and has "New York Central" inscribed beneath the Engineer's Cabin. It is passing under a Turn-of-the-Century Brick & Steel Arched Bridge along the Harlem River ,* where a 19th Century Sailing Ship can be seen beneath the Cliffs and next to it a Ten-Man Racing Scull ! It's heading South to Grand Central Station .* (*Information supplied by Bob Underhill: Assistant Librarian, San Diego Railroad Museum. Thank You!) The white circle at the bottom left is an Embossed Seal of the Railroad; I have enlarged and darkened a typical one from this series to show more detail. This is one of two different New York Central Gold Bearer Bonds we are offering for sale and both of them are some of the Finest Art Work ever produced by an Engraver!
