NEW YORK METROPOLITAN OPERA CURTAIN 1905-1940 souvenir Shipping Info Description New York Metropolitan Opera House souvenir: a piece of the original curtain that hung from 1905 to 1940 � � � � This is a very uncommon item - a piece of the fabric of the original Opera House curtain, stapled to a souvenir card, and issued by the Metropolitan Opera Guild in 1940 "to commemorate the golden days of opera, from the night of its (the curtain's) premiere, November 20, 1905, when it rose on "La Gioconda" with a cast including Nordica, Caruso, Homer, Scotti and Plancon; to its final appearance for the benefit of the Metropolitan Opera Campaign Fund, "Il Barbiere di Siviglia" with an all-star cast, March 23, 1940." � � � � The card measures 3.5 by 6 inches; the piece of curtain measures 4 by 3 inches; the card has a couple of minor wrinkles, otherwise clean.
