Each card measures a generous 5" x 7" and is blank on the inside. Taiso Yoshitoshi (1839 - 1892) was the most influential and prolific woodblock print artist of Meiji-era Japan. He began his masterpiece, the hundred-print series Tsuki hyakushi (One Hundred Aspects of the Moon), in 1885, completing it just before his death in 1892. The wonderful tales depicted in the prints form a panorama of Japanese history and legend that resonates with the richness and subtlety of traditional Japanese culture. Images featured: Cooling off at Shijo, 1885, Moon of the Pleasure Quarters, 1886, Lady Chiyo and the Broken Water Bucket, 1889, Cloth-Beating Moon, 1890. All images are reproduced in conjunction with the Museum of International Folk Art, Santa Fe, New Mexico and Pomegranate Communications.
