An image of 8 Zebra torsos/faces dinner plate. A hand painted plate by artist Franci for Villa Vanilla of Palm Beach California. This plate series of animals, black on yellow,sometimes white and/or gray, black rim and porcelain were designed by Franci (Francigene S. Dixon) for the Taste Setter Collection whom Arthur Miller owned and bought many of her designs. The artist "Franci's" brief biography is stated below after this description of the plate. The plate is porcelain. 11 1/4" diameter. A black rim, 8 Zebra torsos/faces in black on a bed of yellow, some white and with black lines on the Zebras, of course. Backstamped in orange with the familiar: Franci Villa Vanilla Palm Beach Taste Setter Collection For AMM. Great Condition. No chips, cracks or nicks. No crazing. On one plate Some patches of tiny short estate utensil scratches grouped in a few different places that are hard to see unless tilted in the light and There is some color wear on 2 of the Zebras noses/face. No other color wear. The other Zebra plate has 3 zebras with wear in the nose color and a tiny tiny amount of utensil scratches that are small/short. Please ask any questions. Thanks. BIOGRAPHY: After attending Pine Manor College, Francigene S. Dixon moved to New York City and began working in various fields related to publishing, fashion, and manufacture. Upon returning to Chicago, she worked at the Leo Burnett advertising agency, where she met her first husband, Gen. William T. Young, Jr., who became president of the company. Upon his retirement, they and their three children moved to Palm Beach in 1960. In Palm Beach, Mrs. Dixon opened a porcelain studio that she maintained continuously until the time of her death. During that 49 year period, she traveled extensively while also producing a steady stream of work, and staged exhibitions and one man shows of her work in various venues, including prominent galleries on Worth Avenue. She accepted numerous private commissions for a diverse clientele of notable individuals and organizations around the world. She also created a successful line of original designs that were manufactured and sold widely by the Arthur Miller Taste Setter Collection. Gen. Young died in 1981, and Dixon Obituary Page 2 in 1988, she married Homer L. Dixon, who died in 2003. Please ask any questions.
