ZEISS FELDSTECHER VERGR=8 BINOCULARS ANDCASE This model of the Feldstecher with flat prism cover plates dates to the period from 1894 to 1908. These are early ones with the full length strap brackets (later ones had shorter brackets). This particular pair is in very good condition both structurally and optically although cosmetically they needed light restoration. Where necessary, the brass has been highly polished leaving as much of the original black enamel as possible. The original brown leather has been replaced with very dark maroon leather. The ocular focusing is smooth on both sides. The hinge operation is smooth and firm and The lenses are undamaged and normal viewing is clear, however, when back viewed through the objective lenses, there are signs of dirt. This is not large specks but just a slight haze. Normal viewing is fine but cleaning would make it even better. One brass objective lens rim cover has a very slight dent. Both eye cups are undamaged. The left hand prism cover plate carries the name Carl Zeiss Jena in script with D.R.P. below. The right hand plate has Feldstecher. Vergr.=8. A previous owner has lightly scratched the British military arrow on the plate as well. The hinge bracket has the serial number 16294 stamped.
