WHAT IF? #10 Featuring Jane Foster as the First Female Thor Marvel Comics / August 1978 NM 9.4 Off-White Pages First Appearance of a Female Thor (Jane Foster) However the new female Thor saga works out once its story develops, lest we not forget the First Female to wield Thor's mighty hammer, Mjolnir: Jane Foster, 36 years ago in 1978. Contrary to Marvel's current claim that, "For the first time ever, a female hero will wield the power of the mighty Mjolnir", we know that Jane Foster was actually the first (even if it occurred in the What If? title.) Remember, the inscription on Thor’s hammer reads ‘Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.’ Jane was certainly worthy here!
