Segartopper, (Charlie Chaplin's Comic Capers was Elzie Crisler Segar's first comic, first published in the Chicago Herald in March 1916) Henry Hassenpfeffertopper, Married Life3 scenes, Flooey & Axeltopper, Little Paltopper, Keeping up with the Joneses by "Pop"topper, (Keeping Up with the Joneses, by Arthur "Pop" Momand, first created this strip about a middle-class family in 1913 - a title that would go down in history as a phrase meaning trying to keep up with the standards of your acquaintances. Momand drew his parody of American domestic life until 1945, and always signed it Pop. He died in a New York hospital in 1987, at the age of 101. His creation ran in American newspapers for over 28 years and appeared in book, movie, and musical-comedy form, giving the expression 'keeping up with the Joneses' the wide currency that made it a part of everyday language) July 31st - August 30th: Comic page features: Comic page layout the same for this period, except for Charlie Chaplin's Comic Capers being replaced by: Colonel Heeza Liar by Bray (Colonel Heeza Liar was created by John R. Bray, one of the pioneers of animation. The character first appeared in magazine cartoons, but it isn't clear exactly when those began. A good start date for him is November 29, 1913, when Bray released Col. Heeza Liar in Africa, the first of the colonel's 59 cartoons. Col.
